Getting Stuck on Stupid
An aqauaintence issued a small challenge, well, more like a “double dog dare ya” than a challenge.
He had been posting on a site and was running across people who could use a little one-on-one help. He referred a couple of them to me and then he sent me a private message.
You know, there have to be lots of people needing just a little help maybe just a nudge in the right direction. I know how much your help helped me and if you were so inclined, you could join [site name removed] and offer to help one-on-one. Since you do this for free you would have more wanting your help than you could imagine.
I tried to explain pyschology works against this type of thing. I tried to explain people see little value in a wide scale “free” offering of anything. I tried to explain there would be far more who question the motive or validity than those actually acting on the offer. He was persistent…
But, the detractors are so easily dismissed. Anyone accepting the offer would certainly share any bad experience they had, even if they didn’t share a good one.
Perhaps, but what you are most likely to see is someone find that I have a blog and a membership site and claim it is all an attempt to increase the membership. Again, he was persistent…
You mean someone would be stupid enough to think you would give time away, something you can’t duplicate or recover to increase membership when the membership site does not make a profit on purpose? Surely, no one would get stuck on something as stupid as that!
Eventually, I gave in and agreed to do it. The good news is there are some people I am able to help much like I helped Reese earlier this year.
The bad news, is some people still get stuck on stupid…
I hate to break the news, but there are a lot of experienced investors on here that have been mentoring people for free (no $299 website) for free for a long time. In addition, almost every REIA in the country does the same thing. There is nothing new here except the dog and pony show!
Of course, that is from a man who thinks the only way to succeed as an investor is to do everything yourself. He has no concept of leveraging the skills and labors of others.
So, Gary, yes, people do get stuck on stupid and refuse to accept a gift offered without any strings or alterior motives

Oh come on! Give us a link to the thread so we can enjoy it too!
Google was my friend and found it for me.
the thread
The quote above is from page 3.
Isn’t it funny how the guy there hawking his $50 book with a link in his signature is accusing you who has no links to anything in that thread of hawking your site?
Hypocrite morons are always entertaining.
I went there but I can’t see the link to the book you were talking about.
@Casey Hater:
You have to log into the site to see signatures and things.
@Tim:
Yes, Tim, I was wrong, people do get stuck on stupid.
I joined there yesterday so I could contact Taz and volunteer to help mentor others. I don’t have 24 years of experience but I have 5.
I read some of the other threads there. In one Tim said he bought Mr. Rossi’s book. I’d be interested in hearing what you thought about it.
I bought his over priced book. It is 160 pages and over 70 of them are his landlording nightmares. As I read them the only thought running through my mind was why doesn’t he learn how to screen his tenants?
The first 87 pages have some basic information. You would be better off buying Landlording by Leigh Robinson It is much more detailed with almost 500 pages of excellent advice and it is less than half the price of Rossis book.
@Gary Moore:
OMG! I’m not going to join just to see a friggin’ link. Don’t tell me that site is run by a nutcase who is afraid he will lose GoogleGoodness by allowing open links.
LOL! ROFL! What a ‘tard.
I responded to the snark from Mssrs Wieneke and Rossi and Mr Wieneke responded with this:
Isn’t it cute when little boys try to flirt?
I also see that Mr. Dorken fancies himself a bit of a cyber sleuth. I guess I am expected to share my travel schedule with him.
@Casey Hater:
Yes, I think that is part of their paranoia over links.
@Beth W:
I saw that exchange this morning, Beth. I don’t know what to think about it. I will share this, their comments have caused several who contacted me to mentor them saying they would be happy to join if it meant getting a good mentor interested in their success.
My reply is the same, I don’t mentor to get new FG members. But, I know we get new FG members because I mentor. I guess I could post at BP about the people I mentor who have never joined the FG. One since 2001 and I still get questions and requests to kick ideas around from time to time. I’m happy to do it and hopefully by now he knows my willingness to answer his questions is not diminished by not joining the FG.
Anyway, I quit caring what people thought or suspected or worked up in their minds a long time ago.
If they want help, I’m here to help.
If they want access to the best group of fellow real estate investors on the planet, the FG stands ready to provide that. For some, because not everyone is suited to be part of the FG. It is elite but not snobbish.
Tim, I think one thing that made them nervous is the number of views that thread has is 10 days. When was there earlier it was over 2100 now it is almost 2300, that is a very popular thread. Then when a regular there says they would ask you for help but their dad is their mentor I’d bet that made ole Josh’s sphincter muscle tense up.
BTW, Beth, I absolutely love the way you put Tim Wieneke in his place.
The thread is gone, what happened?
From what I can see on BP, the thread is still there.
However, when I clicked onto the thread, I received a message:
“The page you were looking for doesn’t exist.
You may have mistyped the address or the page may have moved.”
They moved it to a private area. I am still getting emails saying the thread has been updated but I can’t see the updates. Since it disappeared it has had three new posts added.
I noticed it was moved to an area where it said you must have 10+ post to enter access.
What’s the update?
It is still out of public view, when I click the link for that thread it tells me it is a “private forum”.
I doubt Joshua will make it visible again.
