When the return of Ann’s breast cancer was discovered in May of 2006, one of the first detailed discussions we had was about her 50th birthday party. We were more than two years out, but it was good to discuss long range plans. Anyone who has faced a life changing illness, or been the care giver for one who has, knows what I mean.
A big part of the 50th birthday party was to be a front yard decorated with pink flamingos. There is a long story about that going all the way back to the first time we saw this house.
Sadly, Ann died four days shy of her 49th birthday on August 17, 2007.
Over the last week I have received several calls from members of the bunko club. Ann was active in it until her health declined too much to allow it. Eventually, during the calls, they all ask if it would be okay for them to put pink flamingos on the front lawn for Ann’s upcoming 50th birthday.
Oh, there WILL be lots of pink flamingos! But, if you want to add more, it is fine with me. Just make sure you tag them so you can collect your flock later. They are welcome, even encouraged to visit but at some point they will need to find their way home.
I always keep my promises, Ann will have her pink flamingos!
