Closing in a Few Weeks

Reese here again, earlier this month I posted about the apartment building I was buying in Dekalb County, Georgia. Everything is going nicely and the closing is scheduled for August 9, 2008. I am very excited.
With Tim’s help, I lined up a great manager to watch over the property and I am lookinge very forward [...] Read more »

I Am So Tired Of Seeing “Sale” When They Mean “Sell”!

Yeah, okay, so on the surface it does seem rather petty of me to be concerned about this.
But, it is part of the reason the real estate investing community is looked down upon.
This morning I saw this title, “Need to Sale Fast?” on a forum. No, it was not an inadvertent confusion of the fingers. [...] Read more »

Three Days Of Oil Price Decline

This really is significant. This is the biggest drop in a number of years. The prices are testing a key support number, $129 a barrel. If it breaks down below $129 and then below $125 a barrel, we are likely to see prices in the $115 to $120 a barrel sometime next week.

Now, Congress is the Only Thing Standing Between The Consumer and US Oil

A month ago I said President Bush should take the lead in allowing domestic oil exploration off the US coastal waters. Today he did just that.
Today, President Bush signed an executive order reversing one signed by his father and extended by Bill Clinton prohibiting oil exploration and recovery in domestic waters off the US coasts.

Actually, I Don’t Want Coaching to be my Job.

I was talking on the phone with an old friend I had not heard from since I left Seattle Washington over 20 years ago. They found me through this blog, so I know they will read this. But, to them it is mostly a repeat of our conversation.
After some small talk, they asked me how [...] Read more »

With Tim’s help, I am negotiating my first purchase.

It has been a month since I last posted here, but it has been a busy month!
In my earlier posts Tim asked me to stay vague about the type of properties I was looking at and I did as he asked.
Now, I am very close to getting a signed purchase contract for an 18 unit [...] Read more »

Forcing Myself to Dig My Well

I use instant messaging a lot. It is a great way to quickly interact with someone on a moments notice. I use Adium on my MacBook Pro and I have no complaints other than with a large list of IM “buddies” it is easy to only concentrate on the ones you talk to regularly.
Yesterday, out [...] Read more »

How Hard Do You WANT to Work?

Real Estate Investing is Hard Work
Yes, I know I am preaching to the choir, but you may not remind yourself of it often enough and you can bet those watching you don’t consider it to be work. They probably think you just rake in the cash while doing little more than convincing the little old [...] Read more »

Changing the Real Estate Holding Mix

I have been a real estate investor for 24 years. I started with single family homes and remained focused there for most of that time. Sure, there was the occaisonal larger deal, but SFH was where I was comfortable.
About five years ago, I started adding “a little commercial” to the mix. Not directly, mostly by [...] Read more »
