Ultimately, we need to develop alternative energy and all indications are the researchers are very near a break through which will make solar energy viable everywhere. The expectation is it will still take 15 to 20 years to productize it to the point where it will make a real impact on our energy use.

Yes, eventually we will have viable alternatives to oil that do not lead to unwanted and unintended consequences.

But, what about the time between NOW and THEN?!?!?

The world demand for oil is going to continue to grow until real viable alternatives are available. The same is true for our demand for oil in this country.

Given that hard, undeniable fact, that demand is going to increase, we have two immediate alternatives.

1) We continue to buy more and more of our oil on the world markets. This not only leads to higher prices, but it puts money in the hands of people who want to destroy us as a nation.

2) We develop our own resources internally. As a nation we are sitting on oil reserves that surpass the reserves currently tapped in unfriendly foreign countries. I am not talking about tapping reserves that would take us 10 years to develop or even 5 years. I am talking about reserves we can bring on-line very quickly to allow the research on alternative energy technology to mature and become viable.
