The Freecreditreport.com Ads are Cute, but VERY Misleading

Especially the one with the guy singing about living in the basement of his new wife’s parents.

The ad says they couldn’t get a decent home in the suburbs because she had defaulted on some old credit cards and he didn’t know this before he married her.

It ends with him saying had they gone to freecreditreport.com before getting married he would be a happy bachelor with a dog and a yard.

Cute, but inaccurate and woefully pathetic.

The fact is if he could afford and be approved for a mortgage for a house with a yard as a bachelor he could do the same as a married man. This newly wed couple could buy the house only in the husbands name, using his credit.

I find it really sad that they are trying to bring FICO into the engagement process. Should she disclose her finances to her future husband? Sure, just as he should to her. But he wouldn’t be much of a man if he stopped loving his future bride just “because she defaulted on some old credit cards.” If that is the case, it wouldn’t have been much of a marriage in the first place.

Cute? Eh, maybe that’s what men in general would think. Luckily, I know you’re the exception, Tim. Thankfully, exception also applies the same to my hubby, father and brothers.

I was very surprised that the advertiser deliberately sent a wrong, faulty and distasteful message. My little girls were playing nearby but I knew they could hear the commercial. I thought “geez! I hope they don’t think that boys are better than them”.

Funny you posted this…my wife and I were watching TV last night and saw this commercial. My response was similar to yours. The whole add really makes little, if any, sense. Sad that hundreds or thousands of people are going to go on that website and pay for advice they could get for free, and quite possibly be worse off for it.
