Things Like This Are Why Government Schools Are Collapsing Under Their Own Weight.

High School kids produce an ANTI-drug PSA telling their classmates to stay away from drugs. Good thing, right? I certainly think so but the principal at their government school didn’t.

For their efforts they get suspended from school for ten days AND the school recommends drug rehab.

My advice to the parents of these kids is to get them out of the government school and into a private school run by administrators and board members with a brain.

  1. When I was a child, both I and my brothers went to public and private schools. How cool is it that we benefit from the private schools and not from public schools?

Academic wise, private schools rated much higher compared to public schools. Many parents worked hard to pay for their children’s private schools. Parents cared. Parents spent more quality time with their children. My five years old daughter is in AR (advanced reading) which happens to be 2nd grade level. She’s already started ahead in math. Private school teachers and parents WORK and PLAY together to help our children. Can we say the same about public school?

Let me put it this way: Once you hand over your child to the public school, you have lost all control over your child’s well being.

  2. Tim,
Thanks for sharing this. I agree 100%!
Sadly, I made a decision to relocate to Florida several years ago, for the weather, and business.
The thing is, the school system here stinks, BIG TIME.
My kids, who are now in High School, are subjected to a curriculum that focuses solely on the state FCAT test.
Even if my child has a 4.0 GPA, and fails a portion of this test, they will not graduate.

I did move one of my children to a private school a while back, not by choice.
My daughter turned in a friend of hers who she was concerned about, because she’d seen in his possession, several days in a row, drugs.

When it came to light that she knew and waited for 3 days to report it. (she was afraid of her friends reaction, but ultimately made the right decision), she was expelled.
As a result, we enrolled her in a local private school.
She attended there for one year, then went back to public schools, to play sports. (her private school only offered volleyball for girls, and she likes basketball and cheerleading.)
That one year in private school, seemed to be the catalyst for her to step up on her own, something 8 years in public schools failed to do.
My daugher is now a national merit scholar, gets good grades, and has already passed her FCAT.

You may ask, “why was your daughter expelled for turning someone else in who possessed drugs?”
    I asked that too………
    Here’s why?
When she turned the kid in, the dean asked her where the drugs were?, as the accused kid claimed to know nothing.
She went and got them for the dean, and the principal said at that point, ’she possessed them’………and zero tolerance dictated that she get expelled…..because she knew were the drugs were for three days.

The school even turned her over to teen drug court, where her case was dismissed by the judge, but the school board upheld her expulsion. (The judge told her she did the right thing and wished her luck in school, but was powerless to get her allowed back into school, just out of the court system.)

Best $12k I spent in years was that private school.
I kinda wish she had remained, but fighting her over it was not worth it.
I only allowed her back on the conditon that she be involved in extra curricular activitites, and keep her grades up………first slip, and it’s back to private school.

It’s sad when my RE taxes on 50 plus houses is not even enough to get my kids a decent public education.

I also learned that when the police become involved in a school matter, here in Florida anyway, our kids get no rights.
When my daughter was questioned, she was not allowed to have a parent or a lawyer present, and if she refused, she was automatically removed from school. The police were allowed to be there as well, and take her statement, without me.
Some looking out for the kids there.
This alone blew me away, because as an ex-cop from another state, I recall our laws stated that we could not question a minor without parental consent, a parent present, or a lawyer appointed by the court.

The good news is that everything turned out alright in the end. My kids now know, should they see something that requires adult intervention, to call me first, and I’ll call the school dean.

This is why I beleive in a voucher system, where we can choose the right schools for our kids.

Always good reading your thoughts Tim, again, thanks for sharing,
    BikerJim
