In a Way the Post Casey Serin Story is Much More Interesting

Beyond the obvious point of him having messed up royally and being a really good example of how not to be an investor, Casey Serin and the personal drama surrounding him just wasn’t all that interesting to me. Sure, he is probably a great psychological case study but at the end of the day he was just a failed investor wanna-be like so many others who go for the shortcuts and fail.

But, now that his blog is shutdown and the domain name sold there is a group dynamic emerging that is curiously interesting to me. That is the clinical withdrawal and mourning going on among those who invested so much time, energy and emotion following Casey and his escapades.

I find myself checking the caseyhaterz.com site more now that they deleted one of my accounts there. Yes, I created (at least) two and one of those accounts never posted a single item, the other posts occasionally. Okay, I have to confess I was trying to see if they would punt lurkers to the street and it certainly looks like that is the case. So, for as long as I find myself wanting to watch them I will make sure to post some innocuous post using the still active account.

But, why do I find myself reading there regularly? Because, collectively that group is going through a typical loss pattern emotionally. There is precious little new information about Casey available so any little nugget gets reported to the group and collectively swooned over. Then you have threads with titles like…

I miss Casey and wish he’d start blogging again

Where they openly lament their emotional withdrawal.

I guess if I had gotten past the obvious baiting and trolling Casey was doing the group dynamic would have been interesting earlier too. But now, with Casey almost completely out of the picture, the group dynamics are patently obvious.

Just think how much better this country would be if people were as interested in what government was doing as they were in Casey Serin. How long would it take to get things like the Fair Tax passed if people were hounding their elected officials like these people hounded various law enforcement agencies about Casey?

But, alas, I think they are completely incapable of that because it would require using logic and reason and judging by the dynamics I don’t think most people who ended up hounding Casey are capable of logic or reason.

I wonder how many of these people suffering Serin Withdrawal will seek professional counseling? I wonder if Serin Withdrawal will enter into the clinical lexicon?

Yes, in a strange way, I find the emotional dynamics of groups like caseyhaterz.com far more interesting than Casey ever was.

  3. I know what you mean about the caseyhaterz site. It is funny to watch sometimes. This morning this was posted about Casey going dark:

“geez, I think he owes us at least an update..
like, Were charges ever filed.. Is Galina going through with the Divorce, did he sell the three gold coins…

We were the ones that kept his traffic high enough so that he could sell it for the 50 large… “
