Moon Landing?
No, it can’t be moon landing….My father worked for NASA and moon landing happened 40 years ago.
Tim mentioned “less than 40 years ago” so I’m guessing it has to do with the livingroom war (aka Vietnam war).
I know, I know, I know!!!!
Martin Luther King, Jr. assassination on July 20, 1968!
I just barely recall seeing my shocked looks on my parents’ faces while the t.v. announced MLK assassination.
Hmmm…MLK assassination was a tragedy in itself.
Considering Tim’s words: “July 20″, “less than 40 yrs ago” and “near tragedy”—I give up.
What’s the historical significant, Tim?
Moon landing.
July 20th, 1969 - 38 years ago today.
It was a near tragedy because when they touched down they had about 15 seconds of fuel left after having to fly farther down field to avoid boulders and such. Then the toggle switch on the circuit breaker to light the assent stage broke off and Aldrin had to use the end of a plastic pen to reset it.
A number of things on that mission could have resulted in tragedy.
We could never duplicate the Apollo missions today because we are no longer a nation of measured risk takers.
BTW, MLK was assassinated on April 4th, 1968 a couple of months before Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in Los Angeles.
Grrrr…..so much for my “just awoken” brain and untrustworthy calculator! I’ll chalk this up as one of my embarrassing moment and never turn on my computer until 1 hr after waking up in the morning. LOL.
