Why Can’t Congress Produce Clean Bills? Why Doesn’t the President Force them to do it?

Congress passed the war funding bill and the President has signed it and all is proclaimed right with the world.
But, why are there things unrelated to the war funding in there?
Why is the minimum wage increase in there? Why the other pork?
And more to the point, why is President Bush not exercising his Constitutional power of the veto to force Congress to pass clean bills?
I am a republican but with each passing day I lose more respect for this President. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t agree with Jimmy Carter, Bush 43 is no where near the bottom of the list of Presidents, Carter has that position secure all to himself.
I unconditionally support the troops and the President in his prosecution of the war on terror because it is the right thing to do. But, I am becoming more convinced that Bush 43 is a republican in name only.
We are in a very dangerous time in our history and given the current pool of candidates from both parties 2008 may mark the beginning of the end of this republic we call the United States of America.
